A Conversation with Laura Dave
A writing tip, book recommendation, and other great insights from Liane that were not covered in our on-air interview, which you can WATCH or LISTEN to now!
For any aspiring writers out there, would you please share a short bit of writing advice?
I would say to try to write the way you probably wrote as a child. Just have fun with it. It’s fun making up a story. Don’t think about out the world of publishing and don’t waste time worrying about whether your work should be more suspenseful, erotic, romantic, literary or commercial. Once you’ve finished your first draft you can be a grown-up again, and edit it with grown-up eyes, and start asking yourself what works or what doesn’t work. I also recommend On Writing a memoir by Stephen King and Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.
What is the last book you raved about and what did you love about it?
In Memoriam by Alice Winn. I loved everything about it. It’s an enthralling story about two soldiers in World War 1, and it’s unlike any other ‘war’ book I’ve read. I don’t want to say anything else except that you should read it too.
What can you tell us about your work-in-progress?
