A Conversation with Victoria Christopher Murray

For any aspiring writers out there, would you please share a short bit of writing advice?
I always say, writers read, and writers write. You can’t say that you’re a writer if you aren’t writing. The quantity nor the quality matters — it’s the discipline that you must develop if you want to be a writer. And writers read — to learn, to get motivated, and to be encouraged because the book you’re reading is proof that it can be done.
What is the last book you raved about and what did you love about it?
I had the privilege of reading an advance copy of Natasha Lester’s The Mademoiselle Alliance and OMG. I LOVED that book. By the first page, not only was I hooked, but I was calling my book bestie. When I picked up the novel, I thought it was biographical fiction. But from that first scene, I was convinced she wasn’t real, and I began researching Marie-Madeleine Meric right away. What I loved about this book was not only the fierceness of this young mother who had everything to lose, but I learned so much and saw the many parallels that led up to WWII with what’s happening in our country today.
What can you tell us about your work-in-progress?
