Latest News from the Fab Four!
MARY KAY ANDREWS spent the Easter weekend with family at Ebbtide on Tybee Island. Lots of cooking (in the newly remodeled kitchen!) and good food and not nearly enough beach time—because there’s always something that needs fixing or fluffing at a 90-year-old beach house. In the meantime, she’s ramping up prep for publication of Summers at The Saint—which is out in less than five weeks!
What MKA is reading and why she’s loving it: The Marriage Sabbatical by Lian Dolan. Nicole and Jason have been married (mostly happily) for twenty-three years, but somehow the sparkle seems to have diminished. When Jason takes a nine-month work sabbatical from his job for a long-dreamt of motorcycle trip through Patagonia, Nicole decides to pursue a dream of learning silversmithing in Santa Fe, and the two declare they’ll also try out something called The Five Hundred Mile rule. Told with Lian Dolan’s wry wit, this is a well-told exploration of the pleasures and pitfalls of midlife marriage.
KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY is so excited to be having a fun Spring Break with her family and relaxing a little bit! She wants to thank all of you for your support of her paperback launch of The Summer of Songbirds–and is counting down the days until the tour for A HAPPIER LIFE! Just a reminder: The first event is coming soon! April 24, she’ll be doing a dinner with WALTER magazine in Raleigh at the City Club. It’s the first time she’ll be chatting about the new book, and she’d love to see you!
What Kristy is reading and why she’s loving it: Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan. I loved getting to meet Annabel in real life (with Patti too!) recently at a book festival. This is the perfect book to take on Spring Break!
PATTI CALLAHAN HENRY is now on the road for the paperback tour of The Secret Book of Flora Lea – starting in Knoxville yesterday and moving her way to NC, VA, and then onto Texas and Florida. She would love to see some of you! And do not miss her Instagram Live with Barnes and Noble and Kristin Hannah coming up on April 9th. You can check out the whole schedule HERE.
What Patti is reading and why she’s loving it: Go As a River by Shelley Reed. Meg Walker told me to read this when it came out last year, and I always trust that Meg knows my taste and OMG was she right. A coming-of-age story like you’ve never read, set in the wilds of Colorado with first love, peaches, a mystery and so much more. I loved it!
KRISTIN HARMEL had a lovely Easter weekend with family and friends and is looking forward to some great reads this week in preparation for a handful of live events she’ll be moderating. First up is F&F’s own Patti Callahan Henry this coming Tuesday at Quantum Leap Winery in Orlando (though of course Kristin has already read–and loved–The Secret Book of Flora Lea, which is brand-new in paperback this week). Later in the month, Kristin will also be a conversation partner for David Baldacci (April 16) and Clare Mackintosh (April 25), both in conjunction with Writer’s Block Bookstore in Winter Park, Florida. You can find details of all three events HERE.
What Kristin is reading and why she’s loving it: A Calamity of Souls by David Baldacci. I just started it, in preparation for an in-conversation event with David at the Dr. Phillips Center in downtown Orlando. Set in Southern Virginia in 1968, it’s the tale of a racially charged murder case as two lawyers–one white and one Black–must work together to free a wrongfully accused Black defendant. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to speak with David about all the issues he tackles–and what they mean for us today.
