I loved the Bookmobile that came to our neighborhood, it opened the world of reading to me. I volunteer at my local community library now, very convenient when I want to borrow a book!

I grew up in a small farm town with no library. Thank goodness for the teacher that introduced me to Nebraska Library Commission.

Because I had an Aunt who was a librarian, I always knew that I wanted to be one, too. I had no library in my schools as a child growing up, and I distinctly remember my first trip on the city bus, with my older brother, to our public library. He was not thrilled, as a ninth grader, to have to take his 5th grade sister on that trip. The first book I ever signed out of that library was Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt. I fell in love with historical fiction and Civil War history from that day forward. My life as an elementary school librarian gave me much joy.

Absolutely love this. In my young years, my library was an escape into a world where I could dive into so many stories, fantasies and treasures. I can still smell my hometown library if I close my eyes.
